Choosing a Sleeper Sofa

Choosing a Sleeper SofaIf you’re adding a guest room into your space, or looking for a way to better accommodate guests that are visiting, you may find yourself wondering what sleeper sofa might meet your needs?

Here at Conway Furniture, we believe that sleeper sofas should be just as comfortable to sleep on as they are to sit on.

However, choosing the right sleeper sofa largely depends on how you will be using it.

Consider Comfort

If you’ll be primarily sleeping on the sleeper sofa, make sure to consider mattress comfort. But, if you’ll be using the sleeper sofa primarily as a couch, and only folding it out when guests arrive, it might be more important that the sleeper sofa is primarily comfortable for sitting. However, keep in mind that sleeper sofas are not meant to be used on a nightly basis. If you sleep on one regularly, both the both the furniture and your back will suffer.

Depending on the type of sleeper sofa you choose, there is often an emphasis on the either the comfort of the mattress or the comfort of the cushions. When shopping, be sure to check out both! Fortunately, sleeper sofas (or sofa-beds) are now available with much better mattress options, and in many cases, the seating even rivals regular sofas. Although memory foam mattresses and air mattresses give your overnight guests comfort, seat cushion foam is slightly softer and will let your family sit comfortably on movie night.

Consider Space

For small spaces, sleeper sofas are ideal. Although they do fold out into beds, they spend most of their time folded up as a couch which will allow plenty available space in the room. Sleeper sofas typically don’t take up any more space than a traditional sofa, except when it’s being used as a bed. You should make sure that your room has enough width to accommodate the sofa when it is folded out. Consider adding in a coffee table with storage and castors that can help hide pillows and bedding but can also roll out of the way as needed.

If you don’t have a guest room and guests often end up sleeping in the living room, a sleeper sofa can be used as a luxurious sofa for you and your family, and a comfortable bed for overnight guests to use. Sofa beds can even be part of a sectional sofa keeping options open for the layout of your room. Although many people don’t want to invest in a couch and a sleeper sofa, often times, you’re investing in both a sitting space and a practical piece of furniture that can help expand your collection to better suite your needs.
