Understanding Dining Room Chairs

Dining Room FurnitureA dining room table is nothing without the chairs that surround it. However, buying dining room chairs can be overwhelming because there are a ton of different options to choose from.

At Conway Furniture, we can help you navigate the many dining room chair options that exist to help you pick the right chairs for your space.

You probably remember purchasing a dining room table set at some point where your chairs matched your table. However, recent trends indicate that your chairs don’t have to match your table. Many people now purchase unique dining room chairs that will pair well with their dining room table but don’t necessarily match it.

Many people now purchase upholstered dining room chairs as well. Upholstered dining chairs are comfortable but consider choosing one of the new performance fabrics or perhaps treating with a fabric protection for cleanability. If only the seat is upholstered, replacing the fabric down the road might not be difficult, to freshen up the look.

Highlighting a Mid Century Modern Chair: Parsons Chairs

Many people now pair classic dining room tables with mid century modern chairs to create a stylish, modernized space with a hint of vintage.

You may have seen Parsons chairs before—they’re a fancier chair that is fully upholstered with some sort of cloth or fabric. Parsons chairs are good for when you’re looking to make a statement with your dining room set; they can match the design of the room or be a bold statement within it (keep in mind the cleanability of the fabric as we mentioned earlier).

Armchairs Versus Side Chairs

Armchairs provide a more comfortable feel for yourself or your guests and are considered somewhat formal. Usually, you’ll see armchairs at the head of the table, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use them for the entire table or combine two different colors or designs.

A side chair is the same as an armchair, except without the arms. Side chairs are more nonchalant; they typically don’t have full upholstery and are rather basic. But they’re intended for general use: this is the type of chair you’d want to be used by a lot of people, without worry about wear and tear.

Now that you better understand your options, maybe you’ve decided on what dining room chairs you’d like to go with or you want to take a closer look at them. Conway Furniture offers a wide selection of dining room chair options, even dining stools, that we’re sure will fit your needs. Contact us today!
