When you furnish your home, whatever your style, you typically want it to look clean, fresh, and organized. Depending on the size of the room to be furnished, you want to decorate and buy pieces accordingly. There are as many different ways to furnish a home as there are people but in all cases space, colour, room use and cleanliness should be considered.

Clean your home.

Get rid of the clutter. Pieces and belongings that you won’t be using should be purged, even though it may be hard to get rid of some pieces that you are “iffy” about. I once heard that people should move every 5 years to make them clean up the surplus. If it means something to you consider it but otherwise … out.

Make a game plan

Create a blueprint in your head of the spaces you have that need to be furnished. Think of the area in the house in which this space is, and also how much space is available. Also, think of the audience that will be entertained in that room/the purpose of the room. There are great on line room planners to help with this process (like at www.conwayfurniture.com).

Pick a color scheme

Set a tone and theme for the atmosphere of the room you wish to decorate. It is most economical to choose neutral colors and tones on the major items, so that they are not dated down the road. Keep the bold and trendy to the accents so you can change things up from time to time.

Remember that quality is better than quantity

Furniture that is kept in good condition can last for many, many years. Furnishing a room does not take more than a couple pieces of furniture; so, it would be more beneficial to buy furniture that is good quality and will last a long time, instead of a lot of pieces that only last for a short period of time. Good quality upholstered seating is especially important for comfort.

Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!

Adding personality to a room is simple through the use of accessories. Wall hangings, family photos, decorative throw pillows, large floor rugs, ottomans, and mirrors are just a few examples of easy ways to add color, style, and personality to a room, no matter the size!

Choose wisely

If you want to spruce up a drab part of your home, don’t rush to the store to buy a completely new piece of furniture or appliance. Small, inexpensive decorations, paints, or accessories can easily make an old piece look brand spanking new.

Find a place for everything

If every gadget, picture frame, accessory, pillow, and anything else you could think of has its own specific place, this will help you to stay organized and clutter-free. It will simplify your home’s look and appearance, too.
