arranging living room furnitureMany homeowners arrange their furniture around one focal point; the almighty television. And although it is an easy living room focal point to choose, there are plenty of other ways to organize your furniture and décor. There’s a science to arranging living furniture the proper way and we at Conway Furniture are here to fill you in on the tricks of the trade!

Before you start moving any furniture, take a moment to look around the room and visualize where you would like each piece to go, thinking about why you want to put it there. Whether you want your favorite recliner by the window so you can see what’s going on outside, or you want the couch to go against the wall to create more space, there is a special place for every piece you own.

What’s the focal point of your living room? Whether it’s your T.V. or the new fireplace you just installed, make sure your furniture is in the best position for safety, convenience and comfort. As your mother likely told you as a child, sitting too close to the TV is bad for your eyesight, so make sure the distance between your television and the furniture is at least three times the size (diagonally) of the T.V. screen.

Think of how often you use the living room for entertainment or relaxation. If you have your friends over each Sunday for the big game, try and create as much space as possible. You don’t want your guests to feel crammed or uncomfortable in your home. To make more space, push the furniture to the outside of the room, closest to the walls, to create more floor space where people can sit or walk around without bumping into one another.

Don’t overcrowd your furniture or try to cram every piece you have in one room. If need be, place the least comfortable chair in your spare room.

Last but not least, remember that your largest furniture pieces can function as focal points of their own. Arrange these furniture items first, then place the remaining items like chairs, coffee tables and end tables around them.

These are just a few of many tips on how to arrange furniture for any size living room. Now that you know the tricks of the trade, it’s time to visit Conway Furniture to pick out all the furniture and décor items you need to make your living room pop.
