Fall Design Trends of 2018

Modern Kitchen DesignOne of our favorite parts of being in the furniture business is that with each season, we witness a host of new design trends that really inspire what it is that people are looking for.

By keeping up with current trends, we’re able to diversify our collection and explore designs that we may have not thought of beforehand.

With fall 2018 approaching, we’ve highlighted some of the latest trends that we’re paying close attention to:

Lighter Wood

In recent years, most of the industry has seen a steady increase towards wood flooring, furnishing, and general décor. People want that rustic aesthetic that only wood can offer. But for a long time, most people preferred darker shades of wood that come off cool. But more recently, a big trend has been ‘blonde’ or lighter colored wood.

Functional Kitchens

Another major trend that we’ve seen — and one that will certainly continue this fall — is an emphasis on the kitchen. For a long time, kitchens were seen merely for utility; where you cooked, ate, and maybe nothing more. But the kitchen is now a key part of a home’s design and is often referred to as the “heart of the home.”

Go Folksy

We’ve seen it everywhere, from creative throws and exposed brick, to redesigned light bulbs and vintage items: ‘artisan folk’ is here to stay. What does that mean for design? More unique pieces of wood; nostalgic throwbacks, like chests and bureaus; and a sense of self in each room. There’s a lot to work with in this theme, so have fun with it.
